Understand human-environment interaction throughout history. Analyze spatial & temporal aspects of urban processes and define planning’s role in sustainable development. Explain urban & regional planning history. Identify contemporary urban planning challenges. Describe key factors influencing urban development. Explain ecosystem services in sustainable urban planning and describe climate change adaptation & mitigation approaches. Understand public interests in urban planning. Explain the legal & institutional context of planning. Describe data & analytical tools used in spatial planning. Explain the statutory planning process. Understand EU spatial planning documents. Describe statutory planning instruments at various levels and explain the participatory planning process.

Presentation and discussion of a seminar work analyzing and critically evaluating a chosen urban planning case study (via TEAMS or in-class).

his course provides an introduction to urban planning history, theory, and practice. It covers topics like the evolution of urban planning, key planning concepts, European and Czech planning systems, planning documents, legislation, and contemporary challenges. Students analyze case studies and explore topics like ecosystem services and participatory planning.
