Learning Outcomes (LOs)
– Explain the concept and significance of the self-referential allometric approach in tree assessment; – Understand the factors contributing to tree failure and the importance of assessing resistance; – Apply sonic tomography techniques to measure the bearing section of a tree accurately; – Conduct densimetric analysis to evaluate the structural integrity of trees effectively; – Develop preventive strategies for minimizing the risk of trunk failure based on assessment results.

The self-referential allometric approach allows, by means of data and dimensions provided solely by the tree, on two different levels of its structure or two different moments of its existence, to assess the degree of resistance to failure of the trunk. This method does not claim to provide an absolute value in terms of safety, but to indicate whether the probability of failure is significantly higher than the normal situation. The prevention of trunk failure involves measuring the bearing section of a tree by means of sonic tomography and densimetric analysis.
