Learning Outcomes (LOs)
By completing this course, participants will become adept at collecting and preserving plants, including creating herbarium specimens and documenting them with field photography. They’ll gain skills in organizing plant data, understanding species names and families, recognizing habitat characteristics, and observing seasonal changes. Workshops will offer practical experience in preservation techniques, plant identification, and database use.
LOs Assessment
The examination will involve the participants presenting their herbarium and catalogue of specimens for examination. The candidate will be asked to identify 30 specimens at random in their herbarium and detail their scientific and common names. Full attendance is required. A herbarium containing 100 flowering plant species is required.
Form of participation (online, in person)
Hybrid learning, attendance at virtual workshops and field-based worksops.
Recognition procedure
Participants will receive a level 6 Special Purpose Certificate in Irish Wild Flower Identification

Duration

110 hours (12 weeks)
This module is designed to provide training in the basic techniques for identification of common Irish wild flowering plants. The course is useful for amateurs interested in high nature value farming, and environmental management.
